On December 21, 2012 we reported two 5.0 magnitude earthquakes hit Japan :

Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Hit Honshu, Japan

5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Izu Islands, Japan 

Now today we received email, according to which 6.8 earthquake had also hit  Vanuatu on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 22:28:09 UTC .

Asteroid 2002 AU4 Could Cause Earthquake On December 21, 2012


NASA’s NEO Earth Close Approach tables include Near Earth Objects making approaches within 0.5 AU of our planet.

Each day there are usually two or three NEOs that make the cut and are included in the database.On December 21, 2012 there is just one.


It is a good sized asteroid called 2002 AU4. It’s size is estimated at 750 meters and it has a long history of making close approaches.

Philippines : Earthquake 7.9 Hit Philippines Tsunami Warning Issued

An earthquake of 7.9 magnitude struck off the Philippines on Friday and a tsunami warning had been issued for the region, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.


The quake was centered off the east coast, 91 miles off the town of Guiuan in Samar province, the U.S. survey said.
